6A- Identifying Opportunities in Economic and Regulatory Trends

Regulatory Changes: 1)      A hot topic of conversation recently has been minimum wage.    Many people are pushing to up the minimum wage; this issue is especially prevalent in Florida.    The state has had talks of raising it as high as $15 an hour.    I learned about this issue on the podcast  Market Foolery.    If the minimum wage really is raised, many companies will have trouble holding on to all of their current employees.    Since it would cost much more to pay them, it may be hard to hold on to enough of their work force to stay viable.    I believe that this problem will be solved by companies moving their production centers to other countries.    Outsourcing allows companies to produce more cheaply because in many countries the labor force is a lot cheaper.    Factories in countries like Taiwan, Mexico, India, ect will be flooded with production requests from US based ...

5A- Identifying Local Opportunities

1)       School Vendor Paid after Billing Mixup  https://infoweb-newsbank-com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&t=pubname%3AOSBB%21Ocala%2BStar-Banner%2B%2528FL%2529/year%3A2019%212019/mody%3A0123%21January%2B23&f=advanced&action=browse&format=text&docref=news/1712830CC46175C0 This opportunity is the result of a billing mix up by the Marion County School Board.   The vendor was a specialist in early childhood training (mostly pre-kindergarden) and did work for the school board between 2016 and 2019.    The school board hired her with the expectation that they would receive a grant to pay her with.    The grant however, didn’t come in until a year after her services began.    Only now was the board able to put together the money to pay her the $80,000 they owed her.    The problem here is obviously that government funding isn’t consistent enough to pay for all the services a...

4A- Forming an Opportunity Belief

During this week’s first exercise I realized an unsolved problem, with what I think to be a fairly simple solution. I personally feel like I lose a decent amount of clothes, and once they are gone you have a slim chance of ever getting them back.  I’m sure this is a problem in many people’s lives.  We all have a lot of different clothing and through the course of our lives we lend them out, take them on vacations, or just lose them; and we end up just buying more.  These behaviors cause people to end up going through a lot more clothes.  Right now there are no products on the market specifically designed for tracking clothes.  The only way to avoid losing them is to be careful, but still, responsibility wont keep you from losing any of your clothes.  If a tracking chip could be made, small enough to be un-bothersome, and easy to put on clothes, it could change this. It could connect to your phone, and you would know exactly ...

3A- Your Entrepreneurship Story

Image
My entrepreneurship story begins back in 10 th grade.  My buddy Preston and I had been taking some pictures on our cameras outside, and we thought that we had some pretty good ones.  Many of them where from camping trips we had taken or days on the many springs and lakes around central Florida.  We started to think about ways that we could show off this amazing land that we enjoyed so much, and also make some money.  What we came up with was the Free Therapy Company.  We would put our pictures onto photo shop, and use the filters and settings there to make them look more like paintings. Then we took the new pictures and put them on the back of t-shirts through a t-shirt design company.  Free Therapy Co was printed on the front of the shirts.  We even took time to develop some hats with our own emblem on them.  We mostly just sold to our friends at school, some parents bought them, and we even reached...

2A- Bug List

1.      The parking lot of my apartment complex is too narrow.  I drive a truck and often I have to make 3-point or even 5-point turns to get in and out of spots. A good solution to this would be to make cars/trucks that have front wheels that can turn more.  Im sure there are a lot of tight places that this would come in handy 2.      When it’s cold out scooters and motorcycles get too cold to drive because of the wind at higher speeds. A good solution would be to create a thin, wind resistant body suit to wear on the scooter.  It would have to be able to insulate you and be easy to slip on and off. 3.      When I try to take pictures at night with my camera they often won’t take because the subject is too dark.  Even if the flash is on it won’t initiate a picture until it has something to focus on. 4.      When it’s cold out and your in the car, its too cold to sit with...
