2A- Bug List

1.    The parking lot of my apartment complex is too narrow.  I drive a truck and often I have to make 3-point or even 5-point turns to get in and out of spots. A good solution to this would be to make cars/trucks that have front wheels that can turn more.  Im sure there are a lot of tight places that this would come in handy
2.    When it’s cold out scooters and motorcycles get too cold to drive because of the wind at higher speeds. A good solution would be to create a thin, wind resistant body suit to wear on the scooter.  It would have to be able to insulate you and be easy to slip on and off.
3.    When I try to take pictures at night with my camera they often won’t take because the subject is too dark.  Even if the flash is on it won’t initiate a picture until it has something to focus on.
4.    When it’s cold out and your in the car, its too cold to sit without the heat on, but often you don’t want to waste gas by running the motor. They could make the cameras with the ability to take pictures even when it is pitch black, because the flash will illuminate the subject either way.
5.    When you ride your skateboard places there’s nothing to do really but carry the board around once you get to the place you are going.  I could make a a kind of backpack that you could slip your board into so that you you don't have to worry about holding it with your hands.
6.    It’s easy to forget to put your phone on the charger before you go to bed, especially after a long night.  An app could be created that judges when your about to fall asleep based on your phone usage, and reminds you to plug it in if it's not already.
7.    Parking in Gainesville is a real problem, and often times even parking in the wrong empty lot will get you towed.  Many times though, everywhere else is full and that can be your only option.  A parking-sharing service could be created where people could rent out spaces to park, so there would be more accessible parking for fairly cheap.
8.    Taking showers is really nice, but it bothers me how much water it wastes if you take a longer one.  Some kind of water cleaning device could be rigged up to take all the soap and dirt out of the used water.  This water could then be recycled back into the shower to be used again.
9.    Riding the bus can be easy and convenient, but only if you know the bus schedule.  It’s easy enough to look up on your phone, but what if you don’t have your phone, or its dead.  The other day I was at an unfamiliar bus stop and my phone was dead and I had no idea where the buses were going.  If the buses had their routes printed on them, then it would be much easier to judge where they were going when you're uninformed.
10. Clothes are very easy to lose, especially if you loan them out or take them on vacation. Especially if you have a lot of them, its easy to not even notice they’re gone until they’re long gone.  Trackers like Tile are getting smaller and smaller.  These have been popularized on many things, but I think that if they were made smaller, and easier to attach to clothes, they would be useful for keeping track of them.
11. I hate when I try a piece of clothing on in the store and it fits well, so I buy it and am excited to wear it.  When I was it and take and out of the dryer though it comes out a lot smaller than it was in the store.  Clothes tends to shrink in the dryer because the heat tightens the fibers as it dries.  I could either try to make clothing out of a more condensed fiber, or clothing stores could be advised to wash their clothes once before selling them.
12.  Most dishwashers are good for cleaning normal plates and utensils, but are not big enough to accommodate the actual pots and pans used to cook the meal.  This leaves you work to do, because you have to hand wash them.  Lager dishwashers should be made for domestic consumers to accommodate all of their cook ware.
13. I like to drive with the windows down, but once I get going over forty or fifty miles per hour, the wind starts to whip into the car really aggressively.  The faster I go, the stronger the wind gets, and it makes driving with the windows open less enjoyable.  Some kind of wind block or re-director could be created to funnel the air in other directions.
14. Our doormat gets sandy and dirty really quickly.  Sometimes it is so sandy already it doesn’t even really clean off the bottoms of your shoes.  A kind of self cleaning door mat could be made so it cleans itself after every use.
15.  Leaving clothes in the dryer for too long after they finish drying makes them wrinkled.  If you’re away from the dryer though, and you forget, you end up having to spend more time de-wrinkling them. Dryers could be connected via wifi to your phone, and send you reminders once the clothes are done drying.
16. Coolers are really nice to have on camping trips, but super inconvenient to carry. They’re heavy and bulky because of all the ice and liquids in them. If a cooler could be made that was lightweight, flexible, and can cool drinks without ice; it would save a lot of space and weight.
17. My shower controls are really touchy, so it can go from hot to cold with the smallest of movements.  It’s hard to tell how much it’s going to change because there is no clear label of what the temperature actually is.  A shower control could be created modeled after the thermostat, so that you would know exactly what temperature you were changing it to.
18. When I shave my face, I always have to reapply shaving cream half-way through before I shave in the opposite direction.  It’s necessary so that I don’t cut or pull at my skin, but it makes the process longer.  A razor could be created that you put shaving cream into.  It would dispense this shaving cream as you shave in front of the actual blades.  This would save the trouble of applying the shaving cream at all.
19. Sometimes while chewing gum you want to get rid of it, but you have to find somewhere to throw it away.  You can’t throw it on the ground because it doesn’t biodegrade, and therefor it’s detrimental to the environment.  A kind of gum that is biodegradable could be created.  People throw their gum on the ground either way, and this would protect the environment from such an inevitability.
20. I like to go camping, and I usually take my hammock to camp in.  It has many different attachments (bug net, tarp, underquilt, ect).  Taking all these to the camp site takes up a lot of room.  It also takes a long time to put them all up.  If a hammock was invented that encorporated all the attachments in one, it would save space in your pack, and time while setting up.

Making this bug list was very challenging for me.  I’m usually am an optimist, and try to look at the things that I like in my life, instead of the things that I don’t like. It took me a while to think of problems that didn’t have some kind of solution already. Many of the more obvious things that bug me, already have solutions.  I had trouble finding those things that bug me that I could think of no current solution for.

  1. I totally relate on having trouble creating a list because I view life in such an optimistic way. One problem I relate to is having using the buses. It is very true that they can be the super nice but only if you know the bus schedule very well. I actually find that many buses do not turn on their tracker so often times I miss buses because of the inaccurate predictions within the app.
